Gangis the Gang-gang - Original Artwork
This piece titled "Gangis the Gang-gang" was a finalist in the Holmes Prize for Realistic Australian Bird Art in 2022. It is professionally showcased with a dark wooden frame and UV gallery quality protective glass. With the frame, the artwork measures 590 x 470 mm. It is painted in pure watercolours on 300gsm Arches Cold Press.
Gregarious, yet quiet in nature, male Gang-Gang Cockatoos are immediately recognisable by their resplendent red crests. I find the finer details of most birds fascinating but, this was an entirely new challenge as each brushstroke was immensely critical to accurately portraying the cheeky face of the bird who is Gangis. The energy expelled by each scarlet feather, dangling and moving without movement, reveals a jovial scene. His character becomes evident with the smile emblazed on his face. A portrait not of a bird, but of a soul.
This piece comes framed with a stamped and signed Certificate of Authenticity.
It is with great thanks to Sharon Walter who kindly captured the spectacularly detailed reference photo of Gangis who resides in Caversham Wildlife Park.
